What an arrogant putz.

I'd like to see him try dropping women's hockey.

$1:
"We cannot continue without improvement."

Maybe the first improvement we should make, is getting a new IOC president.

He has a point, for once.

It's been an Olympic sport for 12 years now and there really hasn't been much change in the the rankings (Canada & USA 1-2 and everyone else beneath them).

Rogge won't hesitate to drop it as a sport, because he probably isn't a fan of it. After all, he dropped baseball from the Summer Olympics, which pissed off the Americans (and Japanese) quite a bit.

Common sense would be for those chicks, from other European countries, to get better.

A lot of countries cannot participate in the Olympics, just because they are not good enough in any sport. You have to qualify, and if you don't, you can't compete. A lot of Dutch skaters are not in Vancouver at the moment (even worldchampions) because they didn't get the necessary points, place, qualifations or whatever. Its pretty obvious women's hockey consists of the US and Canada, and the rest is for fun. That is not the way it should be, so I think he has a valid point.

The people he REALLY tweaked were the Cubans who were immensely proud of their Olympic baseball team. Sadly, in doing this he removed the only forum in which Cuba and the US acted on an official basis together.

True enough, however, rather than make threatening remarks regarding dropping the sport entirely, why not promote putting something together to encourage the other countries to bring themselves to our level? He doesn't need to be an arrogant asshole about it.

I can understand his point on this issue. While I of course love to see the women win gold, it seems too easily done when there is really only one team that poses a challenge. I would like to see the womens hockey improve in the other countries to where getting to the gold is more of a gritty fight with closer scoring games.

blvd88 blvd88:
How about players like Wickenheiser going and playing or coaching in other countries between Olympics? On woman's teams of course not men's

Wick plays for Canada in between Olympic games so that's unlikely. What needs to happen is these countries need to inject more money into their programs and try to improve from there.

Exactly, they beat their rival and took bronze. Their first hockey medal for the women I think. This will hopefully gear up the sport even more in Finland and other European countries. I for one want to see the sport become tighter.

I think he's being a realist. 12 years of the same old. No other Countries care enough about woman's hockey. That's fairly obvious at this point.
