Even a private jet is cheaper than that.
Maybe AC should charter out a plane... Or West Jet. Pacific Coastal even.
Pacific Coastal and AC fly here (west Jet to Kelowna).
It would be VERY Canadian of Pacific Coastal to do that.

The humanitarianism you can buy for 100k is overwhelming. Almost brings a tear to the eye.......

You know, Haiti is one of the last places I'd send my kids...even before the earthquake.

They should just rent a freaking boat from Florida to pick them up. That being said, I agree with Shep, not sure how many parents realized Haiti isn't exactly paradise, earthquake or not.

Oh right, so American private companies should now throw away everything
in order to do gratis work for a bunch of foreigners..

Come on, they are our kids, it's our responsibility to get them out.

It's too bad the article didn't mention who contacted who to begin with.

As regards cost, I'll be willing to bet there are a whole bunch
of very desperate or criminal people hanging around the airports, just waiting
for a chance to jump on something, either to steal whats inside, hijack
it or get a free ride out. Hence... security costs.
Custom job, international flight, no refueling, questionable flight plan,
no services at airport, some bribes to get takeoff clearance,
provide your own security team into a 'at least warm if not hot area'.
100k is not completely unreasonable.

Which is why other airlines haven't simply dropped in to pick people up.
Boats would have the same problems.

having said that, yes that American company has forgotten
what happened on 9/11.

Hows about we yell at our own government, then split the bill with the
parents for being dumb enough to send their kids to Haiti in the first place..

These parents can send a 100 planes down to pick their kids up, but until the UN airlifts these kids to some kind of transportation link, their stuck there.

I agree with you that landing a plane in Haiti isn't exactly booking a flight to Halifax, and it would cost a lot more, but even then, $100,000 seemed a bit excessive, no?

in addition to what I said about security and bribes, I forgot about insurance.
I'm not even sure they could get coverage with that kind of flight,
which would no doubt make it very expensive.

Looks like Gunnair mentioned the kids are getting out soon though,
so that's good..

Well I lived with a woman for a while and nothing would've served her kids pampered teenage asses better than a 'field trip' to Darfur, Haiti or a few other places.

See if they complain about having to share "only two bathrooms in this shitty house"...
