While I'm all for honoring WWII vets and especially spies for the work they have done, lets face the facts, James Bond was not inspired by any 1 allied spy rather a collection of the best of them (Stephenson included) and Sir Ian's own wartime experiences in Naval Intelligence.

The US, British and Canadian Intelligence services still owe their creation to him. Not to mention his own philanthropic and cultural ventures. He was a very well off man before he dedicated himself to the safety of our three countries.

Why does the man deserving of a Knighthood not deserve a street in his hometown?

You get me wrong Caleb, I'm not against the honor of a street name or anything else, he certainly deserves it!!
I mearly mention the James Bond reference and the egotism of the Canadian media in claiming he was the model for Bond when infact alot of very good allied spies were lumped together to create the super spy we know as Bond.

But then being a spy, his cover would be blown.

A bit off the the subject, but I applaude all of those who served in WWII. The went through living hell to remove two malevolent dictatorships that would have choked everthing decient on this planet. They did nothing short of saving this world.

BTW the model for James Bond was a fellow named Sidney Reliiy a real live spy. Reading about his exploits is quite entertaining and I recommend it to anybody who likes spy stories and these are real.

The first lines of the article clearly state:

$1:
Winnipeg plans to name a street after a local man who became a legendary Second World War spy known as Intrepid — an inspiration for the fictional spy James Bond.

It doesn't read the inspiration.
