Something like that needs to be recorded as part of living history as I believe this is the only one flying.

Years ago I worked with the bomb aimer's son, he never talked much about his dad. Not sure if he didn't because he didn't know much or was talked out.

I thought Britain still had one...i'm not sure thought, i'll look it up.

But it is unbelievable - i'm a little spoiled since i've seen it at CWPH and at Trenton, but has history goes, its fantastic and i hope everyone out West gets a chance to see her.

Yes there's still one flying in Britain. I saw it doing a fly past at the Farnborough Air Show with a Spitfire and Hurricane. I believe they do the same thing over the Normandy coast for yearly D-Day anniversaries.

Lancasters in airworthy condition
Lancaster B I PA474 "City of Lincoln"
Operated by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight since 1973. The paint scheme is periodically changed to represent notable Lancasters, and the aircraft is currently flown as EE139 Phantom of the Ruhr, bearing the codes HW-R on the port side and BQ-B on the starboard side.
Lancaster B X FM213
This aircraft was retired from active duty with the RCAF on 6 November 1963, then stored at Dunnville, ON. FM213 had 4,392.3 hours on the airframe when it was handed over. It would probably have been sold for scrap metal except for the intervention of The Royal Canadian Legion in Goderich.
The aircraft was acquired by Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum in 1978, underwent a 10-year restoration, and has remained airworthy since 1988. The aircraft is flown in the paint scheme of KB726 VR-A[19], and is known as the "Mynarski Memorial Lancaster" in honour of Canadian VC recipient Andrew Mynarski[18]. This aircraft was grounded due to corrosion found in the propeller blades but after an appeal for funding it took to the skies again in May 2009

Nope the Royal Air Force have a Lanc flying with the RAF's Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

So that's two on the planet that are still flying.

We fortunate types in the GTA who live near the Lake (Ontario) see the Canadian Lanc fly over regulary. You can't beat the sound of four merlins.

Those of you who are interested should pop along to the Canadian Warplane Heritage museum which is to the side of Hamilton airport. The guys who fly and service the Lanc are always very happy to chat and for $2000 you can go for a ride in it!

$2,000 for just a ride? That's a little pricey......thought it was $200-$300 for a ride. The Mustang I flew was way more than $2,000 but I got to fly it any way I wanted. 8)
