We should not be helping countries and people that seem to have no real desires to help themselves first.

The reason why Haiti has no trees is because of the collapse in the 1960's of the coffee market. They then moved to corn, peanuts and bananas but they found there was more profit in charcoal. As a result the trees are gone. No trees means no soil and no crops. No trees means no boats and with the runoff no marine life as soil erosion runoff has killed mangroves, coral reefs and other marine life close to the shore.

It's a disaster and simple loan from the IMF is a band aid on a sucking chest wound.

Kudos on Harper for at least not adding insult to injury.
