As long as they are pragmatic like their Western counterparts and don't have any retards like the federal NDP federal party, they could do alright.

That's my outlook - wait and see. At the very least, it gives the PCs a chance to ditch Rodney, whom I never liked, and takes away the NDP's excuse that they've never been in power during campaigns.

I certainly not an NDP supporter, but I'm not frothing at the mouth like some are that homeless people are going to be given bags of money and hookers and drugs are going to fill the streets.

The interviews with Dexter seem to suggest he's a level headed fiscal conservative. Should be interesting.

Not quite sure I agree. In his acceptance speech he said the first thing he plans to do is take the HST off of home heating and fix roads in rural communities. So he's taking funds out of provincial coffers to start and making nice smooth roads for the people to drive to closed ER's. [huh]

You think lowering taxes isn't being fiscally conservative?

Sounds rather exciting to be in Nova Scotia. Must be a lot of optimism in the air.

Not at this moment in NS. I don't want to see someone die because an ER is closed, not while violent crime is rising to unprecedented levels in NS. Not while detox centers are overloaded with long waiting lists. I prefer to think of it as fiscally stupid. Makes everyone jump for joy at more money in their pocket, makes the NDP look like good, just so long as you don't think too far outside the box. With all the issues in health care, law enforcement, education they are giving money back and fixing some rural roads as a first priority....great

That doesn't make sense. Gunnair said he seemed like he was fiscally conservative and you said you disagreed, bringing up the point of his reducing taxes - you might not agree with it, but lowering taxes is still fiscally conservative.

I think it's hilarious that someone is complaining about the NDP not taking more of peoples' money to spend on social issues. Seems like you should step back and actually look at what, and whom, you're complaining about.

Wow! The sun came up, the world didn't explode, and Layton hasn't moved to Halifax .....yet! (of course you're welcome to him!)

I'm sure for all those folk living in that little corner of paradise, that things are going to go on the same as it always has.

thats what some though in 1990 when the ndp out of nowhere won ontario for the first time , they were something new but turned into a disaster . now i'm not saying the same thing will happen out east and actually the ndp might be a good fit for a province like nova scotia .
but the jury is out on this new government until we see what there really about and have some sort of record .
