Sorry if I'm a bit mystified by this. What the hell difference would changing our motto make? If this is some type of effort to show Canada's ownership in the arctic it's a pretty feeble one.

Right now we have the Russians planting flags under the north pole, an economic crisis which is far from over, international trade problems, a war in Afghanistan, environmental issues that need to be addressed and numerous other issues for which a list a mile long could be made and the one thing Iggy and the issue Liberals want to tackle at the moment is our motto? Wow.

So what will the new motto be then? From sea to sea to sea?

How about we just be honest with ourselves. Something like For Sale, Lease, or Rent.

Hope changing the motto doesn't cost as much as going metric did.

Other than the cost who really cares. I'll bet most Canadians don't even know we have a motto.

Why stop there, what about something to recognize the southern border? "From sea to sea to sea to America?"

That only defines the country in two dimensional space, though, so after that we'll go to the volumetric motto, and finally the spacetime motto. After that it'll be something weird relating to string theory or quantum mechanics.

$1:
All three territorial premiers in 2006 pushed for the change, arguing that a three-seas motto would more fully acknowledge Nunavut, Northwest Territories and Yukon as equal partners in Confederation.
Um, the territories have coastlines along the "sea" - if anyone should feel left out, it's the provinces that don't have coastlines at any sea, like Saskatchewan.

We have coastlines on three major oceans. Why only acknowledge two of them?

Quit screwing around with the motto and start patrolling the area with nuclear submarines.

Other nations will respect our power and influence in the region, not our fracking motto. Isn't Iggy supposed to be some kind of genuis?

If he is, he is hiding it pretty god damn well.

He won't make promises that Canadians won't accept. One of the reasons Canadians don't back concrete measures to support our sovereignty in the north is simply a lack of consciousness that the north even exists.

Acknowledge the north in the motto and that consciousness goes up just a tiny little bit.

We have provinces nowhere near any oceans or seas - why only "acknowledge" the ones that are?

:?

No province is mentioned in the motto as far as I can see. And the motto obvious alludes to all that is between the seas.

How many Canadians even know that our motto is "from sea to sea"? If you did a survey I think you'd be "surprised".

What is changing a little known motto really going to accomplish?

Is this Iggys idea of his legacy?

Methinks his priorities are a tad screwed up.
