whatever their reasons are, I support their decision... if someone, no matter who, was outside my home taking pictures of it without my consent I'd go out and give them a talking to.

I would first like to see just how detailed these pictures are before I judge them. As long as you can't see inside windows and things I don't really see a problem. Potential burglars probably won't be able to learn anything that they couldn't see just driving down your street themselves.

The pictures can be quite detailed actually. A friend of ours in Seattle directed us on Google maps to a few blocks from his home where there is a still picture taken of a particular street. You can clearly identify him in his truck, looking in the direction of the camera. At the time the pic was taken he had no idea the Google car was there. He happened upon the picture while looking around his neighborhood on Google, and was like, "Hey, that's me!"

If they don't want to live in a public place, they are free to move. Or they can build a big wall to protect their house from the evil walkers. We live in a PUBLIC society as long as I know.

I can't believe the backlash they've gotten from fans of Street View, and I mean fans in terms of what it's short for (link with more info). Why do we have a right to see pictures of every residential street in the world?

It's not really the fact that a picture has been taken that's the worrying aspect of Street View, it's the world-wide, unlimited dissemination. I can't just hop a plane and fly to England on a whim to walk down this street. Why do I need to be able to virtually?

But what if you are headed to the next city or somewhere you haven't been and you want to see what the street is like before you get there. It would definitely help if you are driving in a strange area of downtown, looking for parking and the place you are headed at the same time for example.

I wonder of some people think this is live camera shots they can see on google?

It's a one time photo shot not on going surveillance.
