I don't think that is the problem here at all. Canadians are more concerned of 'keeping' their current jobs rather than thinking about what the hell Americans get the idea how we are stealing their jobs.

For one thing, tariffs and quotas on our products has nothing to do with us stealing their jobs, its called trade, particularly NAFTA. We make steel products, they buy it because it is better or cheaper or other treaty obligations. If American steel companies lose jobs over that or can't compete with it, tough, we aren't stealing their jobs but trying to make a profit, just like American companies in Canada, particularily GM....which has shut down because the Canadian govt won't shell out the money to keep a foreign company here. Go figure.

I understand all that but everytime there's a financial crisis, protectionism and "patriotism" can become a major issue. And when it starts it's a downward spiral to a bigger lasting depression. Yes we have NAFTA and WTO but if the USA want to do it their way, they will do it. There are some protectionnist clauses written in Obama bills. Politics in a financial crisis = very bad. Government and economy just don't go together and should be totally separated to protect the economy from politics.

Do we not have leverage in our oil/gas/water trade to negotiate all trade? If Canada raises prices on those? Or will they just take us out like IRAQ?

hurley_108 hurley_108:
What's your point? A couple of opposition MPs, not even leaders of opposition parties, go to talk to one guy once. BFD.

Harper's been making the rounds, getting his message out, hoping some trickles back into Canada while doing an end-run around Canadian media. He's the Prime Minister. He should be talking to us, not them.

The point is those politicians weren't even working on behalf of the Canadian public, Harper is, yet no comments about them not working on behalf of Canadians. I thought they were Canadian politicians?

Why would we raise prices ? We sell those goods at the market prices, else we would not sell them.

I'm just tired of our country having all it's eggs in one basket (USA). I guess. We might as well join them or move far away from them these days.

Morally, I think away would be healthier for all aspects of our country.

Yeah, the great thing about Canada. Varies from province to province, differs from town to city within the same province. Different in the province of Ontario but the same from the town of whatever in New Brunswick...yeah, I dont get it. I can only surmise that Shell, Petro Canada, and Esso compete with each other which they can't in towns or small areas.

There is no competition for gas prices in BC outside of Vancouver. If gas goes up it goes up at every station regardless of how much gas is in their tanks.

I love how misleading the headline is. It's making it sound like Harper hasn't even paid any attention to Canadian media, while a few paragraphs in, it mentions an interview with CTV and Radio Canada.

The misplaced anger in this thread is outstanding and sad.

Whens the last time Harper was on CBC, CTV making headline statements, or addresses after the election? I sure didn't see anything. It is also no secret that Harper doesn't like the media. I don't blame him with the crap in this country but still...what happened to Mike Bullard?

Oh great! A Harper clone.

Hardly, I'm a Socialist. Some go far as to claim I'm Communist.

You and I have zero in common, I'm a total capitalist. Mind you our family owned a business 34 years in this country, you would feel the same I'm sure walking in our shoes.
