One of the neatest things I ever saw was feeding time at the Calgary Zoo birds of prey cage. They had hawks, eagles, and owls. Each had a different style. Handlers would walk in and pour pails full of baby chickens onto the ground, leave, then the birds would swoop down. Some would just grab a chick, lean their heads back, and swallow it down whole. Others would pull the head off, then pick the guts out, then rip the rest into bits. I thought owls were the latter. Doesn't line up with what the writer of the article says though.

Great horned owls eat small prey whole.
