Yikes, that's like losing 710000 jobs in the US. I hope the government crisis is resolved to deal with the economy.

Things are getting tough, for the first time in 40 years the Bellevue inn tavern was closed today for lack of staff. The town of bellevue was in chaos as people had to drive 5 miles to the next liqour store. [B-o]

Par for the course though as allmost every restaraunt and bar in town has shut down because of a lack of workers.

If you were to read what I had said, I was comparing the job losses relative to population size. I was trying to point out that the situation is worse in Canada and the government needs to stop with the Coalition crap.

Again, I would like to see the government stop this bickering and focus on the economy so there aren't any more job losses.

Yeah this is a good lesson for everyone. Never rely on a pension. The simply fact is you are relying on someone else to give you money even if they promised it to you. Stocks and bonds are owned by you and will be there (if diversified of course).

Indeed. Securities, even after falling are still a great way to survive post job. Especially if you hold a hefty number of coupon bonds.

Canada has a much stronger safety net than the US. I wonder how it will cope with all the folks going on EI.

The unemployment rate is still dropping in all but 2 provinces.

http://www.ctv.ca/generic/WebSpecials/C ... loyment08/

3.7 down to 3.4 in Alberta, part of the 70000 job losses in Canada was 25000 temporary election jobs.
That's easy to fix...300 000 000 well spent. The number of jobs in Canada is still up since January despite the recent job losses. The truth is always hidden in the numbers.
