Aw, stop harping on hip hop, you guys. You just haven't heard any of the good stuff. Turn off MuchMusic and tune in to your local college radio station, you may be surprised at what you find. I recommend listening to Aesop Rock, The Foreign Beggars, Illogic, Atmosphere, and early Saul Williams for some good examples of intelligent hip hop, worth listening to.

I'm talking about people like Alan Jackson who either write ignorant crap about things that didn't happen to them, or songs that are essentially a commercial for a car company.

No no no thank YOU!

Well I am butting heads on the titles and the sound...but I am a stubborn one. I also find it a bit slow for me...I could sleep through the parts I play.

I like AJ.

How many song writers only write about things that happen to them?

Most people write from experience, even if the topic of the song is fictional. I'm pretty sure Alan Jackson wasn't anywhere near New York when the planes hit the buildings.

Jello Biafra and Mojo Nixon made a pretty ridiculous country album together. I kind of wish Jello and Cash had done something together, but that seems unlikely.

No, and that makes them a bunch of emotional fraudsters, capitalising on other peoples' tragedy. Music should be genuine, I don't care what genre it is.

I didn't mean Johnny Cash in particular... I meant you sound like one of those crotchety OLD people who talk about "music these days" and how it isn't really music... not like the OLD days..... :D

I actually didnt give Cash a real chance until he covered Rusty Cage...thought it was brilliant.

But if you want to talk about the OLD days...I could go on for hours about how punk these days is bubblegum crap that epitomizes capitalism and it has lost its 'Fuck the establishment' roots....but this is a country music thread
