It really is sad that there is now one country that hates us Canadians.

However, after a few moments, he added: "I am a poor man, they should help me."

yes yes .. give me money now.. what nice people.

maybe the idiot taxi driver should be footing the bill here.

I wonder why he's not pissed at the taxi driver who wouldn't stop when asked by Canadian troops!???

Obviously it's sad about the children, but it seems now it's just a money grab.

Boy, CBC=Aj-Jezera must be pretty giddy over that sound bite. I guess that makes jambing mikes into the mouths of all those crying victims worth it.

The Afghans definately don't have the same moral code that we do and a death would requite vengeance, or a bribe. I think that many of the Afghans in the cities are coming to recognize that blood feuds and vendettas are some of the reasons why Afghanistan is where it is right now.

Cut the man some slack.

Just the other day he was picking up bloody parts of his children.

Do you think he cares about anything but grieving for them right now?

It was the second thing that was mentioned in the article.... not how much he was greiving or how lucky he was to still have his wife. PDT_Armataz_01_34

And why is every one ignoring the taxi driver. It is his fault. They were passengers and there was a well know fact that you don't get close to a convoy.

His reaction is absolutely typical of the mindset most of the people of Kandahar. I'm not saying all Afghanis are money-grubbing whores...but this guys reaction after losing his children is to tell everyone he's poor and wants money? I feel for the guy, don't get me wrong, but I'm pretty sure I would have reacted differently.

Boys, not to take away from the sadness of this incident, but as a whole, the attitude is basically "what will you do for me"
We arrived on a position outside of Kandahar city one day, here was a group of locals living in typical fashion, that being, a homade stick and canvas/blanket home. Animals running through, completely filthy, very pathetic. The boss decides to go over and speak with them (think PHOTO OP lol)
The head of the family, pulls out a list of demands and through the interpretur starts demanding this and that and gets irrate because we have not provided him with these things (the troops in the mean time are handing out THEIR lunches from the back of the LAVS and bottled water to the kids.
This guy and his family before him have only know what it is like to live basicaly as a cave man, it was like that for him before even the Russians were there. It may sound cold to some of you to say it like that, but that is the reality of life over there, we can put in wells and build schools, but they ALWAYS want more, they even sell food and other must haves, that is provided to them. Very industrious, however you can only do so much while engaged with a hostile enemy at the same time.

The cab driver isn't going to give him a pile of money.
