VOIP and digital broadcast TV are both about the same thing: cramming ever more communication into the infrastructure and bandwidth currently available. It's not about better quality, it's not about lower price, it's not about features, it's about selling more service out of what they've already got. HDTV is suffering because they shove three channels down the same bandwidth as two, charging you more, but providing less quality. And now, on the phone side, the unresolved technical issues related to 911 have cost a life. For shame. Poor quality TV picture is one thing, but your phone is your life-line in emergency situations, and until such time as they can guarantee the same level of 911 accessibility and response time, VOIP should be prohibited.
