I have a small amount of sympathy for her. When we vacationed in Hawaii, the Grand Prix we rented had an interesting system. The speedometer only had one scale, but the needle would indicate mph or km/h on that same scale, depending on if the computer was in metric or imperial. Of course the car came to us in imperial, but my wife and I both like to poke around at things and found the conversion in the computer, and switched it over so we could get temperatures in celsius. We didn't notice this flip the speedometer, which, as it was analog, we assumed was locked to mph. So we're going down the road at 30 km/h instead of 30 mph, piling up traffic behind us, and feeling like we were going ver slow, but we were doing the limit. I think the Aloha spirit stopped anyone from honking at us. We figured it out soon enough, though, and just had to get used to fahrenheit.

If those who refuel aircraft screw this up, why is it hard to believe someone who doesn't use the system at all would be confused? Trying explaining imperial measurements to someone who only knows metric.

My guess is it means something like ignorance of the law is no excuse. I would agree, I just have sympathy for the lady as I've been in a similar situation.

What the hell? All Brenda did was ask a simple question. No reason to unload on her like that. Lighten up...

I can have some sympathy to a point but when your wizzing down the highway in the dark and your passing every other car on that highway wouldn’t you kind of think to yourself “gee maybe I’m going a little too fast?”

Yea, but you trust your technology. She was doing 140km/h, which translates to 87.5 mph. This was on Highway 401. I don't know what the limit is there, but I suspect it's 100 or 110. If so, and if she's being honest about not knowing about metric, then she WAS restraining herself, as far as she knew, doing more than 10 under the limit as she understood it.

As an aside, 140 on the QEII here in Alberta would get you honked at for holing up traffic...
