The U.S. Supreme Court had put a nation-wide halt on capital punishment, for 7 months.
This time, the anti-capital punishmnet crowd - rather than challenge the constitutionality of the death penalty itself - challenged the method of lethal injection, under the constitution.
The Court, in a 7-2 decision, ruled today that lethal injection is a fully legal way to carry out the death penalty.
The court, under President Bush, has been stacked more in a conservative-leaning fashion. Although this is a non-issue when it comes to the death penalty.
Americans, generally, regardless of their political views, are STRONGLY in support of capital punishment. The latest Gallup poll I have seen on this issue, has shown a whopping 70% of Americans support it. Even Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, the top Democrats for the Presidency in 2008, support capital punishment.
Virginia has immediately lifted their moratorium on it, along with Mississippi, Oklahoma, and other states, planning to begin scheduling executions again.
Another issue before the top court, is death penalty for child rapists.

The court seems to be divided, but no ruling has been rendered yet.
Currently, Louisiana, Texas, South Carolina, Montana, and Oklahoma have legalized the death penalty for child rapits. Missouri is considering doing the same.
Only Louisiana so far has carried out an execution for a child rapits.
