This may sound weird to some but I'm damn proud we signed up for the real duty. I already knew our forces were top notch people but this is cool in a very hard-ass'd way. We also got some of the toughest beaches at D-Day and Canada carried the day there too.

Being an accessory in this unethical war is nothing to be proud of.

Yes, the Taliban are nasties, but in the bigger picture it is unethical for Canada to be there. In our own, modest little way we're making it easier for the Americans to do what they've done in Iraq.
Afghanistan and Iraq can no longer be separated.

$1: The report says the former Liberal government elected to transfer Canadian troops from the capital of Kabul to Kandahar in 2005. .
Strange but I don't see alot of the "Conservatives are responsible crowd" posting here to defend this action.
Must be to hard to get their head out of the sand and admit that their beloved party actually had the intestinal fortitude to do, without political gain, what's right....... for once.

Afghanistan and Iraq can no longer be separated. I have to disagree with you. Some war after the fact by a country you don't like has no bearing on our duties and responsibilities to NATO and our allies.

What do you mean? I don't think any of us libs are saying the Cons are responsible. Maybe not too many here, but many in Canada say that.

There was nothing in the NATO treaty compelling Canada or any other NATO nation to go to Afghanistan.
Afghanistan is a largely American-created mess. Now we're left with the dirty job of cleaning it up (a costly exercise in futility) while the US goes and screws up yet another country next door.
It's wrong for us to be there.

My only wish is more countries would do their part.

$1: MONTREAL -- Canada volunteered to lead NATO in the dangerous Afghan province of Kandahar, according to members of a panel that weighed in on the mission's future.
Panel leader John Manley told Montreal newspaper Le Devoir that British soldiers were originally set to deploy in the provinces of Kandahar and neighbouring Helmand.
But the former Liberal foreign affairs minister says Canada insisted on taking the reins in the volatile province and NATO accepted.
The report says the former Liberal government elected to transfer Canadian troops from the capital of Kabul to Kandahar in 2005.
Fellow panel member Paul Tellier told the newspaper that NATO allies suggested Canada take on a security role in a safer province. Lily wrote $1: Freakinoldguy $1: Strange but I don't see alot of the "Conservatives are responsible crowd" posting here to defend this action.

One should be careful what one writes and who you give it too.

Under the present circumstances, it most definitely is wrong for us to be there.
But, if the Americans would pull out of Iraq and then put 100 000 more troops into Afghanistan I'd be less strongly opposed to Canada's involvement there, as strange as that may sound.

Not strange at all. You are not a pacifist but an anarchist.

It doesn't sound strange, you hate the United States and your bias shows. Iraq and Afghanistan are completely separate actions and yet you've just tied them together.

Hey, things could be worse. We could be in both Iraq and Afghanistan
I don't fully support this war, but we got ourselves involved in it so we are obligated to stay unti'll it's over. Even if we got the toughest part of Afghanistan. IMO we are doing a great job so far.
