This officer is not making excuses or trying to switch the blame because their backs are pretty much up against the wall.

It was proven that night that the whole group of officers were more or less incompetent and killed a man by their actions.

They tried to hide this and covered it up for years, but it came back to haunt them over over again. Once again if it wasn't for the video the police probably could've covered this up.

A lot of people in Canada have very short memories. Whether it's Vancouver, Winnipeg, Edmonton, or Saskatoon police forces have abused natives and white people that being intoxicated, by driving them out of town in freezing weather and dropping them off without jackets on and causing death.

The mentality I believe is. They're just drunks or crack addicted hookers and they're going to die anyway so it doesn't really matter what we do with them and because were police we get away with it.

Who are you going believe without a video the dead drunk natives , or the shiny clean officer just doing his duty.

lily lily:
I'm not sure what to think of this. Instant's statements seem genuine and he's not looking to make excuses or shift the blame.

Why do First Nations leaders jump to the assumption that racism was "a big factor". Why do they say this... because Paul was native? Or are there other reasons to believe this was the case?

I'm also impressed with Paul's cousin, Peggy Clement.

unfortunately Lily it is a knee jerk reaction that has has its roots in fact. Digger brings up a good point that Canadians are quick to forget that the police have done some really bad shit to First Nations People, the First Nations are not so quick to forget the wrongs that have been done to them because of their race. Racism is the number one assumption by FN leaders because, unfortunately, 9/10 times there is a racist police officer behind the disgraceful acts comitted.

My question is why this whole thing took 10 years to come to a head! 10 freggen years.....man...

the cops have been horrible to first nation peoplle and quite frankly they are pretty shitty with the rest of us as well.. cops in Quebec can be brutal.. every time someone dies in police custody there is a big coverup and if there is an inquiry ...five will get you ten they will be exhonerated.. the public has to take a stand and demand accountability...there is absolutely no excuses .. they all carry phones and are connected so they could have sent this man to the hospital or a detox centre... no excuses needed .. we have heard all the excuses before...
