I see they have deployed Mirages out there now. Sarkozy has changed things. The French have some quite effective combat units, honest.

The Aussies just like to fight.

That's a military that has the same budget we does but manages to kick arse a bit more than we have, although we are getting better.

Instead of looking to the US or the UK to model our military on we should look at the Aussies. They have some great kit and a real 'teeth arms' structure.

I left the Auzies out because I know they are in action, but please fill me in on what France is doing.
Aside from talk and their secret leftovers in colonial Africa, they've been on the wrong side for too long.

I think much of the Aussi mentality (to fight as you say E-Brock) comes from being an Island Nation

More from being an isolated comonweath nation, isolated from their allies during the Japanese offensive. They learned that they have to withstand for a period of time before help can arive. That difference is what has emboldened Canada to bite it`s protectors hand.

France has had a bad rap.

Chirac regarded the military as furniture for a parade or to interveen in Africa on his pet projects.

European militaries tend to be very well trained, efficient and professional.

When Albania descended into chaos--NATO interveened----the first forces were Italian....Bersigliari ( a prison regiment) a regiment noted for ruthless, effective action. They landed and the anarchy ended without firing a shot----Albanians may be primitive but not stupid.

The problem with most European militaries in Afghanistan is the caveats (I suspect dictated from Brussels).

Old Europe has learned that if they sit on the fence Cretien style the Anglosphere will do the grunt work to save their sorry asses.

Europe was useless when Yugoslavia disintegrated. It took the American airforce to convince Serbia to stop slaughtering the Muslims in Kosovo and Bosnia.
