It's not such a HUGE stretch to surmise that there is intelligent life out there that far surpasses our own in their level of technology. It's not strange thing to surmise that their is intelligent life out there that that is still in some stage of development like a stone age or a medieval age or their version of an industrial age.
The whole universe is so damn vast and the fact that at least in our own galaxy the most stable stars for life like our own Sun are the majority of stars (the last time I checked, new things could have been discovered since then...) in the Milky Way Galaxy bodes well for the possiblility of life out there.
And I wouldn't doubt that there is life out there that is so advanced as to appear to us a Gods or like Neo or Morpheus out of the Matrix. The possibilities are endless for life. The probability that intelligent life out there is so rare and so spread out that it would be almost impossible to impossible for first contact to happen is becoming increasingly dim.
What I get a small kick out of is that most of the major religions out there have had conferences and discussions amongst their leaders and followers alike as to how to treat alien life and even if it's worth the trouble of trying to convert them or not.
We are on the cusp of a new day folks. It is a good day to be alive. (intro Classic Trek music, assume Kirk stance and look to the sky as the camera fades off of me...)
