Canada's a free country. If the president feels it is a safety issue it does NOT matter. Clearly, if anything bad was to happen due to the hijab being worn, there would be plenty of officials and people supervising to stop anyone from getting hurt. The president did not even bother to step into the position of the girl. If he could see her perspective, he would have let her wear the Hijab. What is happening to Canada that makes it so difficult for some Canadians to see that other cultures and religious backgrounds must not only be tolerated, but accepted into our society.

It's simple, there are rules and if you don't obey the rules you are not allowed to join. Why do muslims never try to obey the rules and only wanna make statements to show how intolerant their religion is.

We have some rules here. If these poor little muslims don't like it, they have the freedom to leave.

The sad thing is, the parents are probably using this little girl to bring their point across.

And to anonymous, we don't have to change for anyone, THEY are the ones that need to adapt to our society.

What rules? There's nothing in the rules that says she couldn't wear her head covering.

THere's also nothing in the article to indicate her family are immigrants, so what society are they "wanting to join"?

When I judoed, I was not allowed to wear a necklace either,because of safety-issues, so why is a headscarf anything different?

It is about to change then.
For as far as I know is anything other then the judo suit out of the question. A headscarf is not a part of a judo suit.

I am getting a bit weary of these folk constantly showing up to athletic events recently with their hijabs and whinning because they can't remake the rules. It should be obvious that these individuals were aware of this ahead of time. It didn't come up last year and now every time amateur female sporting events are held we have the same spectacle.

This smacks of an organized campaign.....what happens next year if this is allowed?

That would be a risk for HER, not her opponent.

They stated that it had NOTHING to do with religion, that it was a safety concern yet the parents are too busy playing the DISCRIMINATION card to see that Judo Manitoba had their daughters best intersts in mind. I wrestled for a few years in high school and you take every advantage you can.... and somebody just might.

They said it was against the rules.

But nowhere in the rules of the IJF, which are posted online, does it state that a head covering cannot be worn. In fact, a search of the website does not mention at all that head scarves are a safety concern in a sport that is practiced widely throughout the world, including in Muslim countries.

So I guess that would mean that safety isnt as big a concern in some other countries as it is here, including Muslim countries.

Goalies never used to wear a face mask, now it's a rule.
Hockey players never used to wear helmets, now it's a rule.
Football players used to play without pads - now it's a rule.

See where I'm going with this, R? Most rules in sports are there because someone got hurt and they want to prevent it. Since this isn't a rule even in Muslim countries, it would appear that the risl is minimal to non-existant.

Muslim countries don't allow women to do anything. So take off the stupid head dress and join our society, or stay in your house like you would back home.

Judo involves the techniques of throwing and grappling. I can see why wearing a hijab might risk the safety of the person wearing it. The person grabs at the neck and throws them to the ground with rolls and other grappling techniques. It's not about punching and kicking where anybody can wear a head covering.

I'm all for equality of rights but if this person can't put off their "head covering" for little less than an hour, don't bother. I mean, really.

If there were any viability to other people wearing hijabs in predominate Muslim countries who actually practice judo with safety records in place, then this whole thing would be moot.
