Latest radio says it was a 2 engine trainer taking off from YVR to Abotsford. No word on deaths yeat but about 4 injured. Hospitals in Richmond is keeping it's staff on shift and the traffic around there is a zoo.
Had to hapen eventually and it's good that it was a small plane when most people were working.

The plane, a Piper Seneca twin-engine, crashed through the windows of a ninth-floor apartment in the glass and concrete building. The fuselage of the plane is believed to be lodged inside the smashed-out apartment. The female resident appeared to be uninjured.

The small aircraft, with a maximum capacity of six people, departed from the south runway at Vancouver International Airport at 4:02 pm and was headed to Pitt Meadows, said Kate Donegani, a spokesperson for the airport authority.


The plane was heading eastbound about less than 1,000 feet altitude, and suddenly banked right at [a]] 45-degree angle. It missed the VanCity Tower and subjugated apartment building by a very little margin, and dove away at very high speed. Then we heard the loud boom... there was almost no fire from the building or impact point it hit. Seems like the pilot burned away all the fuel."


Bob McAfee, who works at an accounting business nearby, said he didn't believe a plane had crashed "until I saw the hole."

"I heard a large crash that was probably the plane crash. I saw some pretty urgent moving emergency vehicles. When I saw the cop car do what appeared to be an 80k drift in front of our little street here ... the crowd was gathering so I went up and had a look and there's a big hole there," he said.

This proves that it was a cruise missile fired from a US submarine, by command of George Bush as some form of false flag operation...

Agree, the hole does not seem all that big.

Although, the type of plane is not an Airbus A380 or anything, but still.

It should still leave a bigger mark than this.

I live about 4 blocks away from the scene, or about a 10 min walk. Rather surprising but not a big shock. Considering almost every plane that takes off from YVR flies over Richmond, it is always a possibility that an accident like this might happen.

My condolences to the pilot's family and best wishes for the injured.

Believe me, that is an understatement. The entire area was at a standstill. That building is only a block away from where they are constructing the Canada Line (Vancouver to Richmond Skytrain) which has created traffic chaos down No. 3 Road (Richmond's "Main Street") as is. Police blocked the surrounding streets around the building and had to reroute traffic in an already screwed up area, then of course there were apparently media trucks from everywhere there and as word got out everyone had to drive to the area to take a look for themselves. Commute home for both us was hell today (I work within Richmond and hubby was returning from Delta) and by the time we both got home today and wrung out from the heavy rain we got turned down by 2 pizza places to get delivery. One was Pizza Hut, who was closed, as they are located almost back-to-back with the affected building, and the other said they refused to drive into the area. Was 3rd time lucky so we finally got to eat at 8:30.

I have not been over there yet to see it myself. No point. Seen the pictures on the internet, they seem legitimate to me.

yeah guess planes don't crash into buildings everyday , it makes you wonder how they could of ever hit a building .

I remember reading that back in 1945 a B-25 was flying though Manhattan in heavy fog and crashed into the Empire State Building so there is that sort of explanation.

It will be months before residents forced out of their Richmond high-rise after a plane slammed into it are allowed to return home, emergency officials said today.


The 135 people evacuated Friday afternoon from 8297 Saba Rd. after the fatal crash are currently staying in two Richmond hotels.

When the Piper Seneca twin-engine plane crashed into the ninth floor of Rosario Gardens it hit the building's infrastructure. The action caused damaged water pipes to spill water down to lower levels, damaging the electrical systems and sewer.

The total cost of the damage is unknown. The 82-year-old pilot died in the crash and two residents were injured - one seriously.

I think it struck at about 30 degrees angle of bank. You can see the wingtip hole bottom right of the picture.
