I would have thought moose would have made the top 7 list.

I should have just created a thread rather than uploading the news story so that I could have put the poll on to see what people here think should be the winner.

Does anybody really care what Canada's greatest animal is? [huh]

What about Canada's tastiest animal? I'd nominate the salmon and the lobster. [drool]

Good idea....taken care of.....

Only problem I have is there are so many other animals which could/should be on the list.......

Marmot
Gray Jay
Orca
Black Bear
Big Horn Sheep
Black Capped Chickadee
Raven
Bald Eagle
Turkey Vulture
Kermode Bear
Garter Snake

Ad infinitum

I can't understand why the Walkout (Dumbassius americanis) isn't on the list!

If we're going to do this, we need an animal that we can find from coast to coast, which pretty much eliminates the Grizzly Bear, Mountain Goat, Whooping Crane, Grey Wolf, Bison and the Grey Owl... leaves the beaver and the moose.

Agreed. If you go to the website link in the article to vote you'll see "Other" and moose seems to be on top in there.

Beaver's stood the test of time. Annoying little rodents... probably answers Walkaboot's other question as well.

The grey jay is another coast to coast animal that I saw in your link, even though I had to look it up because I had no idea what a grey jay was until I saw a picture and found the French translation. I see so many of them when I go cross-country skiing... one of the few winter birds that come and eat in your hands. :D

The Gray Jay is also known as the Whisky Jack. The species is associated with mythological figures of several First Nations cultures, including Wisakedjak, a benevolent figure whose name was anglicized to Whisky jack.

Friendliest little birds too. They always come up real close to the guys like they're saying a happy "hello!" when we're out on field jobs.

Jeez, if ya just said whisky jack no one would need to look it up!
And quit voting for God's 'deer v 0.04', the moose. Yeah it's everywhere but annoying rodents beat awkward ungainly stinky things like that...
wait til you get a couple clomping about on your porch too scared to go down the stairs they went up!
You spend 30 years up north listening to people praising rank gristly tick infested meat and beat to absolute rat-shit salmon....(who BTW all think lamb is disgusting)
