ShepherdsDog ShepherdsDog:
I think the largest impediment to breeding is the fact that the wolf will kill the others first. It's usually a male wolf and a dog bitch rather than a male dog and a wolf bitch.
My sister had her rescued dog DNA typed. It's 46% Alaskan Malamute, 46% Dachshund. The rest is an assortment of dogs worldwide.
No matter which way you run that equation, it does not make sense.

Given that, I believe that 'love will find a way'.

There will always be temperament or societal difficulties to dogs breeding, but they will eventually get it done. But the point is, they are still genetically compatible enough to make offspring that also reproduce. A Coywolf can reproduce with a Husky cross. Unlike a horse and donkey.
That's what bugs me most about human 'race' bigotry. We might all look different to some extent, but we aren't so different that we can't reproduce.
