That's what a bunch of Tamils did in the early '90s. Snuck across the railroad tunnel between Windsor and Detroit, popped up on the Windsor side and requested "sanctuary" or whatever. Like seriously? You can be a refugee from the US? Who knew?

Same here. My Great-Great Grandfather fell in love with a slave girl and came here where she was free. Their son was given land by Queen Victoria to homestead, and it's still a family destination for those who want to use it.

I have two groups of very different EUL ancestors who both came to Upper Canada under extreme duress from Pennsylvania and New York.

BTW, I live in a small neighbourhood that was one of the termini of the Underground Railroad. It has certainly been *gentrified" since then but it is still on the tour circuit.

This country is truly the "last stop" for freedom. There is nowhere else to go from here.
