Idiots are starting to shoot themselves in the foot. Pot is becoming more and more accepted, but people are losing patience with these "protests." The original smoke-in took guts, getting run down by cops on horses and all. Time to work from within the establishment, man. This is getting to be like people arguing for looser booze laws by having a puke and fight fest. Oh, wait, those are called hockey riots. Even at their worst, the dopers don't come close.

Take your own advice. These people and those like you don't advance the movement.

Only two arrests? How is this even a story? I see more arrests than that every day walking from my place of employment to my car. Either the protesters were very well behaved (like most stoners are), the police showed extreme restraint, or a combo of both. Sounds like sensational journalism to me. Cannabis protesters confront Vancouver police!!!! The horror!!! What happened? Did the police shut down the nacho stand for not being licensed? Did 7-11 run out of rolling papers? Enquiring minds want to know!

It's a story, because other years the police would have just left them alone. The city is starting to toughen up a bit, because it has 100 "medical" pot dispensaries within city limits, which range from serious compassion clubs that require a doctor's prescription to stores that just have you sign a form that you need pot for medical reasons. Some have sold to minors. So it's basically legalization thru the back door with no controls. The city has now instituted business licenses for these businesses (ie providing licences for illegal businesses) with some pretty severe restrictions. The city is also getting tired of paying for policing costs for these events, which have basically become pot expos with serious coin being made. This is what happens when the fed gov has their heads up their asses, still trying to wage war on drugs, while jurisdictions like Vancouver deal with a totally different attitude towards pot.

Time to legalize and regulate properly. Neither prohibition nor complete laissez faire are the answer here.

Jeez tell the truth, eh!
The City wanted them to move to another location as other stuff was planned at that site, buy didn't give them enough notice. Tjey did it anyway as it's still a protest and not a proper event.
And one of the 2 arrest was for selling pot to a minor right under the cops nose.

Barely news at all but you could hear the anticipation in the reporters voices when they covered it. They were really hoping for a riot.
