The weird part about the exodus was that most of the ones who left the city didn't even leave the state. The ones still employed by the auto manufacturers stayed with the jobs that remained in Michigan. All that happened was the plants relocated to the suburbs and the workers followed them. There was certainly no logical reason to stay in Detroit when the jobs moved fifty miles out of town and remaining in the city meant having to pay city taxes to scum like Coleman Young or Kwame Kilpatrick. Only an idiot would have stayed in Detroit if they made some plaintive 'save the city!' plea from some crooked urban politicians an important priority.
