Car manufacturers have been saying this for years. If we didn't own it, why did we give them so much money?

Nothing runs (to its lawyers) like a Deere.

Funny thing, Volvo never complains when people like myself change the programming in the car to improve performance and access the top possible speeds of our cars.

Lars Ulrich from Metallica and his lawyers got the courts to agree to the same sort of twisted idea. You don't actually own that CD you bought with your own money. It still belongs to the industry and all your money did was pay the rent on that CD for as long as it's in your possession.

Yeah, well I don't buy music anymore and that idiot court decision had everything to do with it.

That's not changing the programming. That's only changing the fuel curve and spark advance tables, power train shift points or the speed limit variable.

You can't change the code that implements that table or runs the fuel system or powertrain. Most manufacturers, like Toyota, don't even allow 3rd parties to access this information; it took Bullydog 5 years to 'black box' reverse engineer Toyota PCMs.

Yeah, I can understand Lars wanting the money for himself to buy more cars and swimming pools with. That's his right as a creator. Tossing people in jail or successfully suing some kid for $200K for downloading though? Christ, even the Nazis had a better consumer protection for individuals than that.

Lars fucked up an oppurtunity to work with Napster instead his ego and greed got in the way.

Buy a new car and chip it or delete the emission programs on tractors voids the warranty which means the manufacturer owes you jack.
