I was thinking of all the eco-tourism they have been building. I hope they can maintain that without all the beaches being taken over by big resorts, like has been going on in the Caribbean.

Doubt it. Once they let in the Yankee Dollah they'll be fucked. They'll probably try to limit it, but then be accused of being dirty socialists for doing so.

I don't. Cuba still being Communist, I think they'd keep beaches for 'the people' rather than allowing private ownership of beaches. It seems like tragic irony that in places like Jamaica, people can't go to the beach because they've all been sold to private companies.

I think Nassau is one of the few that don't allow private ownership of beaches. I hope Cuba avoids that trap as well. It's really amazing to see such beauty that has been preserved as it is, for the good of both nature and for people to enjoy.

I don't expect them to stay communist very long, not even communist in name like the Chinese (they wouldn't keep beaches for the people either). I expect the pressure on Cuba to become just like the US will be immense.

They will become what they want to become. They already use US currency daily which is hypocritical to start off with. If they want to improve their living quality then they will do what it is to get cash. Water flows downhill and through the path of least resistance.

Fun Fact: The American being released in this deal was arrested for trying to bring faster internet access to Cuban dissidents. Maybe Cuba and Comcast are in cahoots
