It didn't 'drive me apoplectic', it merely reinforced my resolve. In a way, I'm grateful that a leftwing radical came along to polarize people against the left. A moderate Democrat would not have been nearly as helpful for the cause of conservatism.

Yup. It's almost impossible the change the United States, now. Old empires don't change and adapt. They stay the same and slowly crumble away. The cycle repeats itself throughout history.

I'm just surprised that so many good people in the US have so eagerly sold themselves to one of the worst, most powerful, and most unaccountable aristocracies that's ever existed. The Democrats are bad, mostly because they're such cowards. The GOP as the party of the average person, that's going to "do what's right for the average American"? That's one hell of a skilled propaganda coup, on the level of what was in Orwell's 1984, to have so successfully and so easily pulled off.

There was a wacky moment on Twitter today when a conservative poster made the comment that "Obama is no Ronald Reagan". The reaction was pretty funny for the most part. I'd embed the Tweets but the CKA system doesn't allow it so I'll just post them in point to point form:

Obama is no Ronald Reagan (because Obama):
- hasn't funded death squads
- hasn't sent a cake, a Bible, and a shitload of missiles to Iran
- hasn't banned the Beach Boys from playing at the White House
- doesn't use astrology to set his daily schedule
- doesn't call his wife "Mommy"
- didn't throw mental patients out into the street
- never suggested that a nuclear war is "winnable"
- doesn't blame trees for pollution
- hasn't had 138 indictments laid against his administration
- never laid a memorial wreath at the graves of SS officers
- never had his chief of staff say "fuck the Jews, they don't vote for us"
- didn't cost the taxpayers $160 billion due to the S&L deregulation disaster
- didn't wait for over seven years to address the outbreak of a lethal infectious disease
- didn't appoint a lunatic like General Al "Purity Of Essence" Haig as Sec of State
- didn't raise taxes

There's probably dozens/hundreds/thousands more examples that the Twitter guys haven't gotten around to yet where the Obama Admin has been cleaner, more sensible, less ideologically driven, and markedly less corrupt than the Reagan Admin actively and factually provably was. It won't make a dent at all in modern conservative hagiography of what was actually a terrible government from 1980 to 1988 that left behind noting but incredible levels of damage on the American system. But facts are facts, and history generally withstands any white-washing that partisans and ideologues engage in.

The grassroots/average American portrayal of the Tea Party is entirely an illusion.

And I don't hate them. I'm more amazed that so many people are so gullible and genuinely stupid to have anything to do with a top-down driven "movement" that is openly run by the corporate sector, i.e. the new American aristocracy. And that worries me, because as many bad things occur afterwards when things get done by stupidity as when things get done in anger or in fear.
