I can understand asking the artist to pay some of the production cost for the show, but asking the artist to give the NFL a portion of their income from tour ticket sales occuring after their appearance is idiotic. The appearance isn't THAT lucrative, unless we're talking about a smaller/less popular act.

So, does anyone still think that professional sport is about sport anymore?

My naivete ended August 9, 1988.

It's a business arrangement between a rich band and a rich organization. How is this newsworthy? Who cares. They'll figure it out. If Coldplay thinks it's financially worth it, they'll do it, otherwise not. Do you guys really think different rules should apply to this particular business enterprise than others?

Gretzky ?

Mine was a bit earlier, so Wayne getting traded was just confirmation.

Yup. That was the dark day.

My experience with Formula 1 in recent years also has much to do with it. Although F1 back in the Niki Lauda days did have the beginnings of the 'sensation sells' recipe.

Interesting plan. In the past they hyped the halftime show to sell tickets and TV ratings. Advertisers pay huge sums to appear in that time slot and fans can't wait to see them. Now the new Boy Bands will have to do the same. I don't agree with commissions for the tours, but I'm sure it's a negotiation process.

Isn't that the truth. I'm getting more and more turned off by the hype and the fluff every day.
If this crap continues, it won't be worth watching anything any more. We'll be better off watching our local tykes for entertainment.

It is in Europe. Just not in America where the Superbowl is nothing more than a glitzy rock concert with the odd bit of American football thrown in.

It's a crappy sport anyway.

ROTFL

European sports are so riddled with bribery and corruption they make third world dictators look like beginners!

How did England do in the World Cup again... XD

Yea, I was still giggling at the irony of Bernie Ecclestone paying $100m to make his bribery charges go away. And every time I Marshall an F1 race, I have to surrender any electronics I may have so I can't take pictures of the race because then Bernie doesn't get a cut of the proceeds.

It would appear that anything American in now overhyped and overpriced including the NHL which has become completely Americanized under Buttman. Thankfully as Canadians we still have one sport left that they play more for the love of the game than outrageous salaries and franchise prices.

Long Live our CFL. [B-o]
