School councillors should also be a little more informative so students don't go so far into debt getting an education they won't need.

Had I known at 20 what I know now, I would have gone into the trades and made a bundle like some of my buddies did. Either that, or I would have forced myself into a profession like other friends did.

Having said that, because I took the road less travelled, I've had experiences that NONE of my friends have had (and likely never will) - walking the Great Wall, studying foreign languages (and their women) in their native countries, surfing in the Pacific, exploring the D-Day beaches, etc.

While my road may have had more difficulties than most of my friends, it has also been far more exciting and interesting IMHO.

*Shrugs* I somewhat regret going into my Political Science major over something more beneficial like Economics or Computer Science, but, ah well.

Yeah, I saw lots of old geezers like you overseas...you spend 20 minutes an hour on the toilet and the rest bitching that your knees/back/whatever hurts and you don't want to go any farther. Way better to do it when you're young and can go for 18 hours instead of 2 or 3 like you old farts! :P

Even funnier is that most of them are too scared to go off the beaten path, so they get the tourist treatment (with way higher prices) instead of an authentic experience. Enjoy your geriatric tour groups that have every second of the day planned for you - too bad if you want to stay somewhere and actually see something.

If there was, you'd have it for sure - ALL of your posts are trolling attempts.

You might have even written more compelling literature. No one wants to read drama of being a English PhD candidate.

Actually, I tried academic writing and hated it. That's one reason why I stopped at a Master's...

Having said that, the road less travelled has certainly provided plenty of anecdotes and stories for me. As the saying goes, life truly is stranger than fiction.

higher ed does tend to broaden the mind. I spent a lot of time working in construction and logging to fund my undergraduate degree. There would always be one or two guys who were inquisitive and well read to talk to. But mostly they were pretty dull guys who just liked to booze it up and didn't have much imagination beyond that. The older guys were often very solid family men, good guys, but still limited in their world view. Some of the ignorant crap they came out with was unbelievable, they just didn't have enough information to test their beliefs./

That's not to say that educated people can be stupid in their own way. Always liked the saying that the intelligence of a crowd varied inversely with its numbers and the education of its members. So a mob of post docs, look out.

Hind sight is 20/20. We end up where we do mostly by luck. A couple of realtively moinor decisions 20 years ago and I'd have a Ferrari parked out front right now. A couple of decisions made diferently 21 years ago and I'd be picking cigarette butts off Hastings Street.

I'm having to do something mindless at work today, and a colleague swung by to talk about his buddy who's a multi-millionaire from setting up one of the early porn sites. That's it. Sites gone now, but he's set for life, and didn't have to work too hard for it.

On the other hand I still remember those 8 year old orphans hunting for recyclables in the burning Kabul landfill.
