Do you know the make or model of the body armor from US? I'm curious.

Years ago Canadian soldiers told me that a "flak jacket" is intended to stop flak or shrapnel. It isn't intended to stop a bullet from an assault riffle. So it will stop shrapnel from a grenade going off nearby, or shrapnel from a rocket attack, but won't protect you from a grenade in your lap, or a direct hit by a rocket. It's only good for the indirect stuff. You need far stronger body armour with inserts to stop a bullet.

Since 2006 the US Marine Corp uses the Modular Tactical Vest with Small Arms Protective Insert (SAPI). The Kevlar itself will stop a 9x19mm bullet, which is a pistol round. The ceramic plate will stop a bullet from an AK-47, but it's only rated for 3 hits, then falls apart. And if a bullet misses the plate, you're screwed.

They don't say about model, but I can show you photo.

$1:
Aviation expert Major Charles Hayman told Sky News: "It's highly likely this aircraft was flying along a fault line between Russian and Ukrainian defences.

"It’s possible the Ukrainians flapped a bit, thought it was hostile and shot it down.

If true, that's not good. What were they thinking shooting down a plane flying at 30,000 feet? The Russians have called out their strategic bombers?

Well, I'm here for few minutes. So, for the last weeks we are in deep shit.

12. Few hours ago Russians shoot down passenger plane "Kuala Lumpur - Amsterdam" (Or another city, news say different versions about second city) with 280 passengers.

Reports here are saying it's a Malaysian flight. 8O

Killing uninterested civilians might just be what it takes for other countries to come into this fight against Russia.

Shooting down unarmed passenger planes is a long standing Russian tradition.

I highly doubt the Russians shot it down. Or supplied the weapons that did.

The Donetsk People’s Republic was boasting that they had taken a number of BUK's from a Ukrainian base, back on June 29th.

The Donetsk People’s Republic also happens to have more than a few ex-USSR forces, who would have been up to speed on operation of the BUK...operational since 1979.

If that's the case then this already volatile situation is about to escalate. Very frightening. I'm thinking airlines should be re-routing to avoid flying over this region altogether until they know for sure what the hell happened here.

Another Malaysian flight too... at least this time they know for sure where the plane is. :(
