Saddam Heussien thought so too. He was incorrect as well.

Saddam didn't have nukes. Putin probably does.

Saddam also fired on planes patrolling the no fly zone

Saddam also had missiles that fired father then the UN sanctions allowed.

Saddam also played games with the UN weapons inspections.

These and many more instances were all violations specified in the UN mandates and sanctions that ended the first Gulf war. If violated war would be declared again.

Rebels down Ukrainian helicopter as Putin reins in Russian forces

A Ukraine helicopter used for carrying military cargo was brought down by rebel fire near the town of Slavyansk in eastern Ukraine on Tuesday and nine people were feared dead, a government forces spokesman said.

Asked about reports that a helicopter had been shot down, the spokesman, Vladyslav Seleznyov, said: “Yes. It was brought down.” Asked about dead, he replied: “There was a three-man crew, in all nine people.”

The situation is finally de-escalating. That's good. Let's not do anything to undermine that.

Remember, although Saddam was horrible, the UN prohibitted the "no fly zone". So when Saddam had missiles fire on military aircraft in the "no fly zone", officially he was firing on enemy aircraft violating air space of his country. Officially there was no such thing as a "no fly zone".

Ukraine ceasefire: Petro Poroshenko calls for 'deeds, not words'
$1:
Thousands of Ukrainians in cars stuffed with belongings lined up Thursday at the eastern border to cross into Russia, with some saying they felt betrayed by their government and vowing never to return.

A commander at the rebel-controlled border post southeast of the city of Luhansk said 5,000 people had left by evening, joining a stream he said has continued unabated through a shaky cease-fire set to expire on Friday.
...
Russia's migration service said last week that it had registered the arrival of 90,000 Ukrainians, but few asked for refugee status because it would oblige them to stay in Russia for at least six months.
...
The United Nations estimates that from April 15 to June 20, 423 people, including servicemen and civilians, were killed in eastern Ukraine.

Even though some rebel groups agreed to observe the cease-fire, Poroshenko said 18 government troops have been killed this week. Separatist leaders also have reported deaths among rebel fighters.

East meets West as Ukraine signs accord with European Union

The European Union has signed a "historic" association accords with Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova as the three former Soviet republics pledged themselves to a future in Europe in the face of bitter Russian opposition.

"This is a great day for Europe... the European Union stands by your side today more than ever before," European Council head Herman Van Rompuy said on Friday at the ceremony with Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko and prime ministers Irakli Garibashvili of Georgia and Iurie Leanca of Moldova.

Van Rompuy said the deals contained "nothing that might harm Russia in any way" and offered all sides the chance "to chart together a safer future".

EU officials insist Russia has no reason to fear the accords, which offer closer political and economic ties, but Moscow condemns them as harmful to its interests and an intrusion into what has traditionally been its sphere of influence.

It did so again Friday immediately after the signing ceremony in Brussels, warning of "serious consequences" to follow.

"We will take all the necessary measures to protect our economy," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the ITAR-TASS state news agency.

I was surprised at Russia's reaction to it, considering they upped the price of gas for the Ukraine only, and require payment up front while simultaneously costing Ukraine billions by backing rebels stirring up trouble in the east.

Did they think they wouldn't lose a big customer to a competitor with a better deal with fewer 'extra' costs?

They keep doing mess on East till there are idiots ready to die for 500$. At the nearest 5 years Ukraine in EU is just a dream. Russians know this, If EU and US allowed they would close all pipes to Ukraine, money they lose are nothing in compare what loses Ukraine. Russia will make as weak Ukraine as it is possible.
