Because he believes he should be executed, I think.
Personally, there are worse human beings in this country. Why this one deserves specifically extra punishment compared to the monsters within our borders is beyond me. Well, not really. It's rhetoric and posturing... It's nice to have an Goldstein to hate. Even though, in reality, he hasn't caused significantly more problems then what will happen daily across this country, Canadian to Canadian.
There are rapists, drunks, wife-beaters, biker gangs, murderers, pedophiles, corporate thieves, psuedo-slavers, and survivalist madmen armed to the teeth in this country with a much larger rap sheet, yet they don't have the national ire and sustained vengeful hatred as this Arab kid got.
I'm going to say that if, right now, some stupid white teenager who loves GTA5 went to the Eaton Mall and threw a grenade, killing let's say 3 or 4 people, we'd have stopped talking about it within 3 months and have entirely forgotten the case within a year. The trial would go silently, with some angry murmurs about how he's getting it easier than he deserves, but then... Nothing. He'd be released from prison on parole peacefully and would never have to fear some self-righteous retribution from some would-be vigilante. He might be lucky to end up mentioned in some book like "Canadian Assholes who Killed People between 1927-2013".
But I'm sure it's different, because "it is a warzone", even though murders by our side's soldiers are basically completely excusable by the very same people for the same given reason...
By "our side", I'm referencing the American soldiers, since I'm not exactly sure of anything recent in the Canadian military (though I'm sure when it happens, it'll be considered okay).
Nope, you're wrong. Look at the Canadian medic in A-stan that was charged with murdering a PoW immediately after his unit was ambushed. Given the circumstances and the medical condition of said PoW, I don't think it was murder myself, but some mucky muck thought so.
