Knowing Rogers this is entirely believable. It's been funny watching the big 3 bowl and scream at the thought of Verizon coming in and actually offering some competition.

The "Big Three" are blaming the Feds for all of their woes. I think that it's a smart move ... breaking up this cartel. I've just gone all around town comparing the various rates to start up my daughter with her own smart phone and the "Big Three" offer the exact same deal in lock step. I'm reminded of gasolene prices that go up simultaneously, all over the city, every second night in this "free market environment" of ours. Rogers whining away about how committed they are to the Canadian community is pretty rich considering their reputation for rude, lousy service and, of course, having Canadians pay more for cell service than anyone else on Earth.

If anything, the CRTC should be demanding that the Big Three justify why they should contiue to have "band width" assigned to them in light of the poor quality history of their operations.

They (the "big three") are trying to wrap themselves up in the Canadian flag... makes me sick.

Maybe it's too late, but check out Cityfone...

http://www.cityfone.net/

I've been with them for a few years and I recently upgraded from a relatively "dumb" phone to a Samsung Galaxy Ace IIx on a 2 yr plan for $0 and the first six months of service at 50% off.

The Galaxy Ace IIx certainly isn't cutting edge but I think it will be as much as I need.

The website design doesn't allude to who runs Cityfone, but the legal-speak at the bottom of the page gives it right away.

$1:
The following are the terms and conditions that apply to your use of the cellular phone service and personal communications services (“PCS”) provided by Cityfone, operated by Rogers Communications Partnership, to your use of PCS receiving and transmitting equipment and to your assigned telephone number(s) (“Numbers”) (individually and collectively, the “Services”), including but not limited to the handset, handset accessories and SIM cards (collectively, the “Equipment”).

Cityfone, a division of Rogers. Their main brands are so spit upon they start these new companies under different names, where the only clue to who really owns it is in the fine print.

I hope Verizon slaps them all silly.

I know that Cityfone is piggybacked on Rogers. But I think the deals are better.

I do agree that there should be more competition, but in the meantime we have to work with what we've got.

She ended up going with a IG Nexus 4 phone (with a $100.00 certificate back for Best Buy), a Koodo Tab deal @$35.00 /month for two years.

Nice phone! It's biggish, like a mini-tablet, with Android.
