Part of the rationale for coming up with new ranks (like Master Corporal/Master Seaman) back during the unification was to standardize pay for roughly equivalent duties throughout the ranks of the different services. To add to the confusion, a Captain in the army and a Captain in the Navy are very different ranks, one being a far more senior designation.
After all of this time, no one of military age would likely care if the name of their rank reverted back to the British tradition. It all happened long before their were born and it can't figure very highly in the grand morale scheme of things.
