Great Article, leaves you still wondering the question you had when you read the title, WHY was she turned away? I mean it's hard to think of a reason you'd turn away a 7 month old who for three days has been vomiting and having diarrhea.

Considering that it is the RUH, only thing I can think of is maybe a nurse in training that didn't know what she was doing.

That wouldn't make sense though. I don't believe trainees are ever put in charge of triage. Even if they were they'd have a trainer to override their decision.

Christ OTI, what are you thinking. The kid went into convulsions. He should have been admitted right away. 2 million children die every year from diarrhea, mostly in 3 world countries. Have we really sunk that low?

To be fair, in the UofS they usually need somewhere around 90% just to get into med. Almost all the medical areas are pretty hard to get into, nursing is a lot easier to get into as it is direct entry and can be taken at pretty well any college in Canada.

Are all the Doctor's and nurses in RUH, graduates of the BN and MD programs there? Even respected doctors and nurses, with years of experience can screw up.
