no web access in jail?

You'd know about that from being drunk and disorderly, I've never been there.

I just stopped in to see how the apologists were spinning their defeat.

Hey, I think it's a good thing both ways. The LGR stays and the Libs and NDP take a hit.

No trafficking illegal narcotics today then?

Here's an interesting article from the Globe today titled;

"Long-gun vote switchers brace for blowback."

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/pol ... le1717663/

The Globe is known for CPC/Tory spins eh?

Hallelujah, it's over. Maybe now the pols can tackle something that actually merits worrying about.

The Libs are higher in the polls than the Cons were during the end of the minority Martin government. The registry issue has polarized people, but it hasn't translated into support for the cons. All it will do is give the Lib's and NDP a reason to show up on election day. The only thing Harper had going for him was record low voter turnout.

It's everywhere EyeBrock.. Thanks to prohibition laws like S-10, organized crime makes more money trafficking illegal narcotics in this country than our government does selling cigarettes and alcohol.

It's happened this week curt. The polls take a bit of time to catch up. Hey, I'm not trying to grind a partisan axe here. I think scrapping the LGR is silly after all the money, time and effort etc that has been expended. I think they should just fix it and solve the issues.

But, it's politics isn't it?

Silly issues like the fact that aboriginals on reserves don't have to register their Mohawk pattern AK-47's but Joe Newfy's rat shotgun has to be at the penalty of jail still exist.

Personally I think the pros of keeping the LGR outweigh the cons but now it's a political football and the Tories won't try and fix it, they just want it gone because it suits their political agenda. And dividing the electorate is on their agenda.

But as usual you come out shooting from the lip in the belligerant way we are all used to.

Try debate sometime.

I don't believe they want it gone, they just want to play games dividing Eastern Canadians from Western Canadians, and Rural Canadians from Urban Canadians. They work very hard to make parliament dysfunctional, ideologically oppose any compromise, and then prorogue the house and blame the opposition which forms the majority of the house when nothing gets done.

It's tired, very very tired. Coalition time.

I would think it is more of a West/Central/East divisive issue. I don't think many on the east coast would support this.

But, I do believe it's check-mate for rural Libs and NDP MP's.

They were already an endangered speices, just like Conservatives in big cities. If you look at the seat distribution, there's more seats in the cities anyways, so I don't see things changing that much really.

My guess is that Quebec will still vote Bloc, Alberta will stay Conservative, and most rural seats will go to Conservatives and most urban seats to Liberals/NDP. If anything, I expect the Liberals will rebound and get more seats in the next election, not fewer, especially given Harper's inability to gain in Quebec.

I disagree Boots. I think the Tories were on track for another minority but this LGR thing is golden for them. They aren't getting any seats in the 'elite' ridings anyway.
This will mean a lot of Lib marginal seats and a few NDP ones are in danger of becoming Tory ridings.

The CPC have cemented their policy of partisan politics. They sense traction with the LGR and elite thing and I think they are right. Easy sound bites for an apathetic public.

Tt's devisive politics taken to the next level, and it might just get them enough seats to get a majority.

I don’t see this as that much of an opportunity. Harper already has most of the rural ridings west of Quebec, so the opportunity for growth isn’t that much.

Just like I don’t see the Libs/NDP getting much in the way of urban ridings, as they own most of them too. Even suburban ridings around the Big 3 cities aren’t that concerned with this issue and I agree with Gunnair, apathy will take precedent over action. Most of those who care about the registry already vote Conservative.

If anything, I see this back-firing on Harper, as most Canadians don’t care for partisan politics very much.

Results of vote that killed Bill C-391 on September 22
On September 22nd the House Commons voted to keep the federal long gun registry and kill Private Member’s Bill C-391 that sought to abolish it. The Bloc has unanimously supported the registry and the Conservatives have unanimously opposed the registry. In November 2009, eight Liberals, 12 New Democrats and one Independent joined 143 Conservatives in passing the Bill on second reading. Between November 2009 and the vote on September 22nd, Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff and NDP Leader Jack Layton were successful in convincing 15 of their caucus colleagues to change their votes and support the registry. Here is the results of the vote September 22:
