The issue will ultimately have to be sorted by the people of Israel and the people of Palestine, neither of which are going anywhere. My expectation is a muted response by the Palestinians compared to what is being predicted, and the Middle East in general, because--well, it's Trump being Trump.

There's this thing that's been happening in the background that people aren't noticing.

I think it matters.

As a result of the unrest in Iraq and Syria, Iranian militias have been able to create a kind of Twelver friendly route from Iran to the Syrian western border.

What happens when they reach East Jerusalem?

I imagine the mullahs in Tehran will be the first to find out.

Although as I look again they'd have to make it through Jordan to get to East Jerusalem, wouldn't they?

They'd still be closing in on the border of the disputed territories (or what others are calling Palestine) though

I think the idea of the road is to have Iran take effective control of Lebanon.

Bilateral negotiations work best between parties with roughly equal power. However, when it's the US/Canada etc. versus some random tribe things tend to go more like those negotiations I have with Apple before I type 'I agree' to their incomprehensible new terms. And they're not even armed. It's the same reason India wants to keep third parties out over its negotiations with Pakistan over Indian Kashmir. The Indians know the people of the state would go with Pakistan tomorrow if they could (God help them) so they want keep that sort of reasonng out and let brute force have its say. Similarly, Israel stands to win from a bilateral negotiation with the Palestinians. In such situations, letting the two sort it out just means closing the cage and forgetting about equity and the like, basically trial by combat.

The Iranians can tell you what would happen, The Iranian army, navy and air force would be rapidly destroyed.

Actually, the Israelis only stand to lose in any negotiation.
The Palis have already decided peace is not the way,
they couldn't be trusted with any agreement anyway,
and serious negotiations would only wind up with the Israelis giving up
more concessions and more concessions.
As long as there are no negotiations, the Israelis can do what they want.
And they win.
Palis and their leftist friends are so bloody stupid, they have never figured
that out.

If you don't like it then you hate Israel and thus hate Jews and that makes you a NAZI.

The above is brought to you by the same liberal logic that brought you ANTIFA.

Apple aren't even armed. You missed the point there.

No reasonable person expects Israel to commit suicide but the future possibility of two-state should be preserved. Israel and America are now removing that possibility for all time. The West Bank will end up containing disconnected Palestinian Bantustans controlled by the Israeli state, the 1.1 state solution.

WTF is the point of even discussing it?
You're talking to people who think that everything that can make things worse is another great stride forward.

Blame should be placed on Russian-squirrel collusion:

We reaffirm our commitment to the UN-approved principles for a Palestinian-Israeli settlement, which include the status of East Jerusalem as the capital of the future Palestinian state. At the same time, we must state that in this context we view West Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Kissing Palestinian ass for the past twenty years hasn't worked so now it's time to try a new strategy of NOT debasing ourselves and kissing their butts.

Radical, I know.

I often wonder why people want to keep perpetuating the same failed policies that will never result in anything different.

Because sometimes the shitheads are rooting for the bad guys to win and a failed policy on our behalf is a great policy on theirs.
