Seems legit.

Not! Repeating bullshit is still bullshit! You should know by now I fact check anything that mildly whiffs of it. If it's true, why is no one else reporting this? Video or it didn't happen.

Blame is being hurled around in the Middle East press, where concern is laced with cynicism over the attacks in Belgium. US policies, Islamic State (IS), Hezbollah and Iran's involvement in Syria all come in for criticism.

There are "black days" ahead with "Daesh [IS] waging a war on the world", says a commentator in Lebanese pan-Arab leftist daily Al-Safir.

Saudi private daily Al-Riyadh wants the world to stand up to Iran, which it accuses of cooperating with Al-Qaeda and Lebanon's Hezbollah in Syria, saying that Tehran is fuelling sectarianism and terrorism.

Syria's pro-government daily Al-Thawrah blames the West for "allowing the Israelis to provide Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey with expertise to strengthen Al-Qaeda, Daesh and Al-Nusra Front".

Egypt's state-flagship Al-Ahram daily also blames the West, which it accuses of failing to support anti-terror efforts in Egypt and the region.

The Emirati private daily Al-Ittihad appeals to Europeans not to take tough reactionary measures against Arab and Muslim communities. "This is what the terrorists want", it says.

A commentator in Jordan's pro-government daily, Al-Dustour, warns that until the US decides to take a firm stance, Europe "will continue to pay the price in the form of a massive refugee crisis and transnational terrorism".

A commentator writing in Israel's Yisrael Hayom says Europe is "sunk in agreements" that limit measures like surveillance, "entering Muslim neighbourhoods", detention and interrogation. The writer says Europe should "set off on a defensive war" otherwise, it will find itself "defeated in the evil war its enemies are initiating".

Funny, they aren't mentioning dey jes poor good boys under whitey's yoke.

And, of course, this has nothing to do with Islam.

jimcanuck jimcanuck:
I've lived in predominantly Muslim communities and spent a lot of time in Muslim communities across the world. I have never had one negative experience.

Jim,

I say this with all due respect, BULLSHIT.

Not even Muslims say what you just said. Desert Dude, our resident representative of the Emirate of Dubai (a very nice place), has normal, day-to-day challenges that he sometimes complains about and we're very comfortable with his being exactly who he says he is.

There is simply NO WAY that you spent a lot of time in Muslim communities AND never had one negative experience.

It's impossible.

And that's not a slam on the Muslims. I'd be calling bullshit on you if you said the same about living in Hawaii.

See, some of us have actually been over to the sandbox and we've seen Islam up close and personal and even aside from the terrorism there's just day-to-day things you run into over there if you're there for any length of time.

To tell me that you had a full-on Disneyland experience in a part of the world where millions of people are fleeing and no end of human rights abuses occur on a daily basis tells me that you were never there.

Because not even Muslims say what you said.

Period.

Full stop.

That's the same headline from the same person he quoted. Recursion does not make it true either. If Sanjjan made such a ludicrous statement, someone must have recorded it! Single source news just doesn't cut it.

Number of US citizens unaccounted for - State Department
Posted at 17:11

Mark Toner, Deputy Spokesperson: for the US State Department, says about a dozen Americans were injured in Tuesday's attacks.

He said the US authorities were not aware of any Americans among the victims, but said a number of US citizens remained unaccounted for.

They include some staff members at the US embassy in Brussels, Mr Toner said.

The embassy is served by the Arts-Lois metro station, a neighbouring station to Maelbeek, where the explosion on the metro train happened.

The Belgian authorities have not yet released nationality information for the reported deaths, Mr Toner added.

Belgians had precise warnings of attacks' - Israeli newspaper
Posted at 17:37

Israeli newspaper Haaretz claims it has learned that the Belgian security services, as well as other Western intelligence agencies, had "advanced and precise intelligence warnings" about planned attacks in Brussels.

Intelligence services knew "with a high degree of certainty" that attacks were planned in the very near future for the airport and, apparently, for the underground railway as well, the newspaper claims.

Haaretz says the attacks were planned in Raqqa, the Islamic State (IS) group's headquarters in Syria. It says the IS cell that attacked Brussels was linked to the cell responsible for the attacks in Paris last November.

The report also says the Brussels attacks were triggered by the arrest of Salah Abdeslam because the jihadists feared he would reveal details of the plans.

This doesn't surprise me, I was wondering why the media was broadcasting that Abdelsalam was cooperating with police.

And selecting the airport/Metro as targets, well, any idiot can do that.

The Turkish presidency has identified the Brussels attacker deported by Turkey last July as Brahim El Bakraoui, who blew himself up at Zaventem Airport.

It follows Turkish President Erdogan's assertion that Turkey had deported one of the Brussels attackers and warned the Belgian authorities he was a militant.

Mr Erdogan said the man was detained at Turkey's border with Syria at Gaziantep

The Turkish presidency said El Bakraoui was later released by the Belgian authorities because they had found "no links with terrorism".

People should be losing their jobs and be put in jail over this, but it's not going to happen.

Brussels airport officials are now saying the earliest resumption of flights could be on Saturday.

I think even Saturday might be optimistic.

Najim Laachraoui identified as second airport bomber' - French and Belgian media
Posted at 19:07
Reuters
The man on the left has been identified in media reports as Najim Laachraoui

French newspaper Le Monde and several Belgian news outlets have identified the second suicide bomber at Zaventem Airport as Najim Laachraoui.

Laachraoui was named earlier in the week by police as a wanted accomplice of Salah Abdeslam.

Analysts say Laachraoui is believed to be a key bomb maker, and French media say he also played a major role in the terror attacks in Paris.

I don't believe this for one minute.

Bomb makers, planners and money don't blow themselves up.

You get useful idiots for that.
