It's really amazing the difference between the average Sikh or Hindu Indian and the Pakistani Muslim.
As a ex-pat Brit I have a lot in common with Indians, and the more easy going Pakistanis’, usually of ex Indian stock (Muhajirs). It's instant mutual respect.
I can't say the same for a lot of other Pakistani's and Muslim Arabs and Africans I've met.
I always feel that I'm about to insult them unintentionally or commit some unspoken and unwritten sacrilege.
Ditto. Sikhs and lower-caste Hindus and I always seem to hit it off instantly. The muslims and upper-caste Hindus know that I won't tolerate their supremacist intimidation tactics.
FYI...Sikhs blew up Air India, which was the deadliest terrorist attack prior to 9/11. They also assasinated Indira Ghandi. Some still celebrate their "martyrs" in annual parades in Vancouver.
The Tamil Tigers terrorist group, which invented the suicide bomb vest, is mostly Hindu and Christian, as were the assasins of the famous Mohandas Ghandi. The Sinhalese govermnet of Sri Lanka, which has been accused of equally gruesome and barbaric tactics, is mostly Buddhist.
The Rwandan Genocide was conducted by Faithful Catholics. And much of sub-saharan African attrocities and wars are between Christians. Terrorism knows no particular religion or race or nationality.
When you speak of your so-called "experience" with Indians vs. Pakistanis and Arabs, what you are likely experiencing is "Old immigrant" and "New Immigrant". "Old immigrants" who came over here 100 years ago are mostly assimilated, while new immigrants will not assimilate until a significant portion of their community has been native-born for at least 2 generations.
Pakistan has only been a country since 1947, so immigrants from that country are not more than 1 generation old, most of the came during or after the 1970s. Middle Eastern immigrants are likewise fairly recent and came in waves from different parts since the 60s and 70s. Sikhs and Hindus, by contrast, have been migrating throughout the Angloshpere since the 1700's. The English liked to take Indians with them on their travels to serve as house servants, errand-boys, slave overseers and various other "upper level" servant positions, as well as cheap paid labour when slaves were scarce and/or outlawed. Many other Indians voluntarily followed. Britain also ruled India for several centuries (depending on how you want to count it) and therefore many Indians were already Anglicized in their own homeland before emigrating.
For the record, Iranian immigrants are some of the most modern and western immigrants I have met, and their women are decadent, sexy and almost always smoking hot. Iran has always had a pretty decadent culture and the immigrants we have here are almost all comprised of the people who fled the strict Islamist revolution of 1979.
I bet someone of Indian ancestry who is 4th generation English or Canadian probably deeply resents the fact that some still see them as an immigrant and compare them to some just-off-the-boat Pakistani.
