andyt andyt: EyeBrock EyeBrock: And we should mirror the UK in only the ways that they penalise cops or other ways? Doubtless there are other ways that the UK does things better than us. Maybe at some point we'll be looking to them for guidance at how to cut govt spending, since they seem to be really going for it. Maybe not, if the burden just falls on the lower income groups. That's the nice thing about looking at how other countries do things, you can cherry pick. Same with our healthcare system - lots to learn from Europe there too. Absolutely there is a lot to learn from Europe. Taking away people's pensions for screwing up at work is not one of them as long as we still not give murderers and child molesters what they deserve. I know, apples and oranges, but I think we have other things to worry about than taking away peoples pensions when they screw up at work and get fired.

I agree Brenda. andy bravely ran away so I think the logic of the argument was too much for him.

EyeBrock EyeBrock: andy? Sheesh Brock, I know you love me, but you've gotta let me have a bit of a life away from the computer. Logic schmogic - this is an instance where being a police officer would carry a special burden. As the line says, it's only in some instances where the pension is revoked. To me, being involved with organized crime would be such an instance. And as I said, more important to me would be that he has to pay back his salary while on suspension, and lose any pension benefits accrued during that time. And they should fire his ass, not let him resign, and I don't understand why they don't charge him.

Ok, if you pay into a pension scheme, why should ANY Canadian lose that cash because of a criminal conviction?
Just wondering where your logic comes from.

Just wondering where your logic comes from. Okay, Okay, you make a good point. Since I'm such a cop hater, I just jumped at the idea of taking his pension. I would like to look at the British scheme to see how they implement it, maybe it does make sense, better minds than mine have figured out the logic of it. I stand by my idea of recouping money paid while on suspension if he's fired for cause after the investigation. That would be a 200,000 dollar kick in the nuts for this guy, which he richly deserves.

EyeBrock EyeBrock: So we should recoup money from any pension then? The $200,000, as clearly stated in DD's post, are the wages he received while he was on suspension for 3 years.

Go an andy, what do you do? Anybody that gets paid while on suspension, if the charges are founded.
