They're all the same. Once their in, the promises go out the window and "head for the trough." You can't totally blame Harper though. Fact is that if teh coaition ends up in charge, they won't hesitate to stack the Senate their way. Still I would have preferred to see elections. Instead we'll get 18 more deadweights in Ottawa.

Harpers actions show he's no better than the Libs are except of course he's being a hypocrite for doing it now for strictly partisan reasons and as it seems to be in his nature lately, in complete contradiction of his promises.
More proof he’s a jerk.
BS, how do you propose he get's his senate reform through a senate stacked with Liberal appointees?
You’re kidding, right?
You don’t change the way the Senate works by filling it full of your own partisan hacks. It’s the same body, working the same way, doing the same stupid things, and in this case even if he fills it with 18 clones of himself, the Liberals STILL have control.
The government has to make the changes setting the terms and conditions of being in the senate.

Insofar as stacking the Senate goes, how about a compromise position of "Chretien, bad, Martin bad, Harper bad."
Sounds fair to me.
I'm going to go with unelected Senate=bad. Which basically means the same thing.

funny thing, That list of senators on the first page - Martin appointed 4 conservative senators, I wonder, I think he really did hate the liberal party... lol
I actually didn't really mind Martin, but he was caught up in the sponsership scandal and had to pay for his sins.

I'd like to believe that. I'm not a Conservative fan, but when Harper got in, I consoled myself that he would at least get rid of teh gun registry, get an elected senate and crack down on violent crime--things I support. Still waiting. And he won't be doing much legislating right now, after he's had Parliament suspended.

It really annoys me when ppl with 5,000+ posts think that someone else doesn't know anything about politics because they're new here. Do you really judge peoples intelligence by how often they post on an online forum?

It has nothing to do with post count. He's been here about ten days and feels he can judge my contribution to the site. But thanks for being a cheerleader.

Aren't accusations of being a cheerleader a bannable offense?
