Oil rose above $45 a barrel on Wednesday as reduced production in Canada's oil sands region due to a wildfire pushed aside concern about excess global supplies and expectations of rising U.S. crude inventories.
Quite a fire that can raise oil prices. Of course as Alberta comes on line again, the prices will drop, just as they could use the money to help rebuild.

It's very rare I agree with everything you say in a post. This is one of those times. I was thinking along those lines as I read the previous comments. Right when they get the pumps working again the price will drop and make it even harder to rebuild rapidly.

Nice stuff on fire breaks(early on in the postings) also. I see fire breaks here in Texas and think it's not wide enough.

Don't agree, Andy thinks Syncrude is beside the MacDonlds across the street from the downtown Legion in Ft. Mac. Their still pumping oil, Alberta is still online, that's a good thing about pipelines.

I'd gas up today if I were youse guys. None of the plants are in danger (yet) and operations are still at normal but there's no way the gas stations won't have the fuel price jacked up at least 10 cents by tonight in order to profiteer as much as possible from the situation.

Not so.

Shell shuts down oilsands site as wildfire forces tens of thousands to flee Fort McMurray

http://business.financialpost.com/news/ ... =6a13-6026

Not a result of the operations being in jeopardy but not having the workers to run it.

Oh, let him have his fun about what I think. At least it's not the slime that Shep started up with as soon as the site went back up. I put what I wrote in quotes because it's being reported in the news that oil prices are up because of expected reduced Canadian output. Just surpised that Alta Red Dick hasn't dug up some Sun article the "proves" the NDP is responsible for the fire.

I'd shed a tear Secundus, but it seems you've cornered the kleenex market with your schadenfreude fap fest.

Gusts are hitting 40 kph. Not good.

Potable water supply for NE Alberta may be affected. Boil water advisory has been issued for the region...as if they didn't have enough shit for the day.

They're saying the fire is about 7500 hectares, which is about 29 sq. miles or 75 sq. km. It started at 200 on Sunday. 8O

This city was an economic dynamo that helped drive our economy, providing employment to folks from all across Canada. This isn't just a few Albertans who will suffer, while assholes revel in their misfortune, with the loss of this city.

EOC has been evacuated.

Fire is flaring up, surviving buildings are being dowsed as a preventative measure.

Wasn't that because of Notley's gas taxes, on top of the Prentice gas taxes she kept in effect, being added to the price? That and the reality the companies kept the fuel price artificially high over the last year because it was their only remaining source of profit? Not fun but I figured every five-cent drop in price came with another five thousand job losses so there had to be a bit of a trade off. :(

An acquaintance of mine at the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL-FIRE) says they have yet to receive a request for aid and assistance from Alberta.

Meanwhile we've got around 120 aircraft sitting on the ground, ready to go.

Fire has consumed approx 10,000 hectares (100 sq km). Not expected to slow.
