Maybe if the auto manufacturers got 'back to the basics' they would see sales improve immensley. Instead of every vehicle rolling off the line with every conceivable option, they were to send out a few vehicles just 'bare-bones'. Then if the buyer wanted to add extras they would have that choice.
For my line of work, I need a full size cargo van. Even 'looked after' it is going to take a beating. It needs to be 'practical, not pretty'!
Air, cruise, tilt, power seats, power windows, heated seats, heated mirrors, Sirius, on-star, lots of chrome and plastic are not necessities. These all only add to the price and I ain't buying!
I was just looking around and found the '09 Sprinter, base price of $38,000+ U.S.D. They go up in price from there! As a 'small business' man, I cannot justify the cost, given the conditions of many of the roads and sites that this vehicle would have to travel on.
In these times of restraint, people want value for there money. It is a time to '
put the luxuries aside, and concentrate on the necessities.

Yogi - you raise some very valid points... And I salute you for not trying to turn this post into another "imports are better" or "NA cars are crap" rant...

I think that I am in the majority when I say 'All we want is good, dependable transportation at a reasonable price. Until such time as that becomes available I will continue to buy 'used vans' for work, and perform due-diligence on my pick-up. I baby that truck! I bought it new in '02 and the odometer just turned over to 97,500 kliks. A comparable truck today would cost me about $50,000! How could I possibly justify such an expense? Until the auto manufacturers and auto workers 'get on the same page with me' they are S.O.L.

Very tempting Zig. But I drive full-length vans cuz I need to keep 12 ft rolls and my tools warm and dry. Someone would likely 'snap that up' for a huntin buggy!

Yeah...you're one proud Canadian willing to sell his sovereignty for glitzy mports. You're no different then the native Americans who sold Manhatten Island for some gawdy beads...

Wife went to the grocery store. Picked up a bottle of baby dill pickles. Got 'em home and they had printed in small print 'made in India'..... Nothing is made in this county anymore...

Buy Toyota. There's more chance that all the parts are North American made...which is why Toyota has more right to be in NASCAR than some of the other 'North American' makes.

Your one IDIOT... Please saunter over to the Corvette Forum and post nonsense like that...

BUT what is true is the fact Toyota is being investigated for human trafficking slave labour from China...
