$1:
Dion has found something to wage his electoral battle: "Canada has a prime minister who thinks that the United States is not only our ally, but also our model," Mr. Dion said, accusing Mr. Harper of "mirroring" U.S. President George W. Bush.

What Dion is trying to say is that Harper has leaned towards policies and treaties that involve more free trade and military alliances with the United States that only tie our economy so close to theirs that our economy often takes a plunge when the United states experiences problems. Treaties such as NAFTA and the North American Security and Prosperity Initiative further increase these ties.

It is also important to note the North American Security and Prosperity Initiative between Mexico, the United States and Canada was signed without little Canadian awareness, looks like the conservative government has a hidden agenda.

Clearly Dion is not wrong on that when he says Canada has an -almost detrimental- relationship with the US.

When Dion says "model" he quite clearly says that for Harper mimicking the USA is good.

I really dont see how harper is "mimicking the USA" at all. If anything, i would say that the USA is mimicking us, as even their "maverick republican" favors big government. I would like to see a conservative majority and see what kind of changes they can implement. The carbon tax would mean a lot more than 2 cents added to gas by the way. Prices on virtually everything would go up.

Being tough on crime is a good thing. I just read in the sun the other day an article by a former toronto policeman, discussing the issue of gun violence in the city. I cannot remember all of the statistics exactly, but one of the astonishing things was that people convicted of prior acts of gun violence and drug offences were constantly being granted bail time and time again, only to commit more crimes. The revolving door needs to stop for people who have absolutely no respect for the law. It costs lives.

In view of this escalation of violence, the Americans should know by now that prison hardens criminals.

Getting them back in the workforce instead of excluding them from society. Which bounds them to commit more crimes so they can feed themselves, pay for shelter and purchase garments.

So...what? Just because americans are tough on crime we shouldnt be? Americans are wrong about everything because they are american? I cant hold a certain view without it being "american"?

You're revolving door is the foolish way, that evades common sense. Listen to what toronto cops are saying about the issue and how to help it, not youre america-bashing friends.
