Yea, I'm not on board with his story. Why would the US do that?

Short version? He is resting on his laurels. He has gotten old and lazy and either he is an intel asset and they are burning his cred to get out in front of a story to discredit a narrative or his own ego overran his own professionalism. One or the other.

Yea, I mostly suspected he's an unwilling pawn of Putin. But he does have credentials.
Which is what the last season of 'The Newsroom' taught me. You can be good at your job, but a better intelligence asset can still play you.

I wouldn't doubt for a second that the US did it and they are also using Seymour as a distraction to muddy the waters. That still doesn't excuse his lack of professional ethics which have been sorely lacking for some time now.
