Curtman Curtman: Freakinoldguy Freakinoldguy: I Concur. All Honorary Degrees are a load of shit, including the ones people like Chreten, Martin, and Trudeau received. ![Drink up [B-o]](./images/smilies/drinkup.gif) But did they receive a doctorate in law from a university that doesn't even have an undergraduate law program? Once again, you grasp at straws.. and drown. As I previously mentioned, the leftards havent got a clue. http://www.uwinnipeg.ca/index/newsflash-070724$1: The Honourable Vic Toews, President of the Treasury Board and Member of Parliament (Provencher), today announced funding for up to $473,600 for the University’s theatre building. Minister Toews made the announcement on behalf of the Honorable Beverley J. Oda, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women. from 2007. Axworthy was President back then too. Are you getting it now ?

Zipperfish Zipperfish: Lemmy Lemmy: Well who are these leftists? Sociology professors? Law professors? English literature professors? Maybe. Economics professors? Science professors? Engineering professors? Nope. I think you're seeing a vocal minority and concluding that it represents the majority (both students and professors). U of Guelph has a "tree-hugger" reputation, but again, that's a minority on our campus. The majority of students and faculty are either science/engineering types. I did my MA at Western and that's certainly NOT a leftist campus. It's largely blue-blood, silver spoon, old money, secret handshake types...defintely not leftist. I was involved in student politics at UBC, where I went to school. I don't really know, but I'm probably construed as generally centre-left on this site by most, and hard-left by a few. Sitting in Student Council I was considered far-right. Even got called a Nazi a few times. Funny thing is, as I was younger, I was probably more left then than I am now. Erin is entitled to her feelings, but she may grow up to regret her comments. She has already reached the pinnacle of her career, from whatever basket weaving program she graduated from. Shit like that is not forgotten.

martin14 martin14: Are you getting it now ? Totally. Makes perfect sense. Half a million taxpayer dollars bought Vic a degree from a non-existent faculty.

ShepherdsDog ShepherdsDog: How far are you from a degree? A commission gets you better pay/pension. I knew a couple CPOs who did that just before retirement. I got my degree back in 95 after my initial stint. Once I've maxed out on jobs, I may look at a CFR for pension purposes or simply for more work.

So, the fact that your parents were married disqualified you for a commission?

ShepherdsDog ShepherdsDog: So, the fact that your parents were married disqualified you for a commission? Nope. Just didn't bother. Was having way too much fun being an NCO.

You had the opportunity to be a Pig/Rodney but you decided to do it your way. The lefty in me loves it and the military in me respects it. Your still a Jock-Fish-head but, hey, good stuff.

How the hell would I know, or why should I care. It has no bearing on the fact that they never attended the academic facility and earned that specific degree which was awarded to them, which, should tell you something about the value and importance of an honorary degree. But, I guess in your ferver, this small matter isn't a sticking point, since these people were your heroes and since Toews isn't a Liberal, it changes the validity of his Honorary Degree. Given the importance of honorary degrees, I may as well be awarding them to people here on CKA. So just to be fair, I'll let you be the first to try out this new website, that gives the individual (you) the ability to grant themselves an honorary degree: http://www.universaldegrees.com/lp/gene ... gwodEgh60QGood luck and congtratulations on that new Degree you're about to receive since it should go over well at the next Liberal Honorary Degree Winner convention. ![Drink up [B-o]](./images/smilies/drinkup.gif)

Well thanks, ya fly winged crabby paddy, but there ain't much to admire. I got my degree when I was a Masterseaman, and although my CO recommended me to apply for my commision twice, I was never really that interested. I figured I had as much to offer as an NCO if not more than being another officer. That, and as I said, it was just too much fun. Driving patrol boats, boarding party, weapons, and all the hands on I could enjoy. I wanted to be a ship's Coxswain as well, and having done that, well now, I might consider it. Or maybe not. Maybe the'll offer me a job where I feel I can still contribute. It's an unfortunate delusion of the military that they often believe it's only the officer that can offer something to affect change. Myself and some other NCOs disagree, so we stick it out.
