There should not be immigrants that should be elected into office at any level.

Seen some instances where representatives in the Commons that can barely speak fucking English, like WTF is that all about!!!

Some get elected in their riding simply because of the ethnicity of their constituents and nothing else. So whether this sounds racist or not, at least, as a true Canadian, would never fucking betray this country born and bred.

You mean like those 3 Scottish prime minister's we've had?

The public broadcaster kept the interview in its back pocket until it broadcast the exclusive this week.

Seems the CBC didn’t think it was “news worthy” till it’s time of choosing.

You have a thing about Brits in Canada eh?

Pardon us for being here in the 17th century. Our food was crap and we heard that the recipes were better here.

DrCaleb DrCaleb:

I think it's China and India myself. They need what we have to develop their economies.

My initial thought too, but the article I read said China and some Middle Eastern countries to be named later. I would guess Israel would be among those - they spy on everybody.

When I suggested something like this here recently, I was poopooed for being paranoid. I think many immigrants have dual loyalties. Understandable, but we should deal with the ones that break the law in this regard and ship them back.

Of course many immigrants have dual loyalties. It's far too easy to become a citizen. The test is a joke and I think the period of residence is too short at 3 years.

Used to rag the Scot in-laws that was why Britain hung on to India so hard. You can taste the food even if you're really, really drunk!

In the USA the players for espionage these days are: China, Russia, Israel, and France.

And in those countries, the players for espionage are the US, UK, Australia, and Canada (either independently or through Echelon). Not that either is better than the other, but it's sadly the way of the world, I spy on you, you spy on me.

Well, you can't give someone a Canadian citizenship and then tell them they can't vote, run for office, etc. It's an all or none proposition. Otherwise, Canadian citizenship isn't worth squat.

The obvious solution is to make the residency period longer, at least 5 years instead of three. 10 might be even better. But even then, the idea that you're going to turn someone who has spent most of their life in another country and culture into a Canadian in such a short period is naive at best.

What? You mean we aren't always the good guy and in the right? I'm shocked!

BTW, It was very diplomatic of you not to say which spy represented us being good and us being bad.

Quick reminder, the article isn't about immigrants, it's about born Canadians that have been seduced by free trips to foreign lands.
